Sing for Obama

Sing for Obama! Sing for America! Yes We Can!

Yes we can! Can you?

After reading Amie’s post, I’m even more impressed with what we’ve managed to accomplish in 8 short days. Now we’re moving on to some of the logistical details surrounding the shoot. This is one of the best and most fun projects I’ve worked on. The energy and spirit around it….the way everything seems to be there at the right time and to fall into place. People have stepped up at every turn.

And that is the whole point! We can work together to get things done…to make a change.

Check back here on February 27th or 28th and we’ll have a unique Santa Cruz music video up. But that’s not the end of it. Then we’ll ask more from you. We’ll ask you to view the video and tell all your friends to do the same. We’ll ask you to use your social networking sites to get the word out. We want to create a major buzz around this video.

And, of course, make your own video. You can do it with two people, four people, a crowd. Just sing the song, add your own unique flavor, and have fun! No need to be a musician or a videographer. This is the people’s video movement. And we want our voices heard. And raising your voices in song with others is a powerful way to reach emotions and inspire others. So, do it. It’s easy.

We are doing it. Yes we can. Can you?

Thanks you for your great vision and execution. I have one suggestion. The line “With Obama we can” ha two problems. One, it implies that without Obama, we can’t. Our song is more powerful if it proclaims our power as people, not Obama’s power. This line also hammers the message to vote for Obama too strongly upon those who are not yet decided. It is better to inspire people to vote for your candidate than to tell them what to do. By repacing the line “With Obama we can” with a repetition of “Yes we can” or “Yes, we really can” the singers express a feeling that listeners are likely to want to join with. I think it is better to let them make the connectin that the way they can join is by supporting Obama. The real message should be the that WE can, not that Obama can. We elect Obama because he believes in this message, not because he is the message. Thanks for your consideration.

I agree that the real message is that WE can. But, I also think that Barack Obama has done a great job of reminding us of that, as well as motivating us to action.
I like the “With Obama we can” lyric because, it is the only lyric in the song that mentions his name.
Thanks for your inputs…keep them coming.

I hope you were at the event. If so, what did you think?
